HCV is the predominate cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in infected persons. Community-acquired HCV infection is common and causes significant morbidity and economic burden. The lack of efficient antiviral treatments for HCV emphasizes the importance of the search for an effective vaccine.
