Naked DNA Elicits Protective Immunity In Murine Model of Encephalitis

Naked DNA vaccination offers numerous advantages over older tick-born encephalitis (TBE) vaccines.

TBE occurs over a wide expanse of Europe and the former Soviet Union. The two most common TBE in Europe are caused by the flaviviruses Central European encephalitis (CEE) virus and Russian spring summer encephalitis (RSSE) virus. In 1976, a formalin-inactivated, chicken embryo-derived vaccine was introduced in Europe and since its introduction, the number of cases of TBE have declined.
