Emergency Human Vaccine Against Hong Kong H5N1 Influenza "Bird Flu" Developed

Protein Sciences Corp., Meriden, Connecticut, has successfully developed the first experimental human vaccine against the H5N1 "Bird Flu" strain of influenza that recently infected people in Hong Kong and caused significant economic loss in Asia.

The company understands that the vaccine is to be used by the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) in clinical trials involving laboratory and healthcare workers who are "at risk" from exposure to the virus in the United States and other countries.
