Campaign Promoting Hepatitis B Vaccine a Success in Kenya

The hepatitis B vaccine promotion ongoing in Kenya is such a success, hospital stocks have to be replenished frequently.

According to an article in The Nation newspaper ("Hepatitis B Vaccine Is in High Demand in Kenya," May 15, 1998), one Nairobi Hospital official said, "People are responding positively to the campaign against hepatitis B." The program only began in early May.

Full immunization comprises a series of three shots: the second dose follows one month after the first, and the third dose is given six months after the second. The vaccine helps prevent hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection for a specific period.
