Parents of Five Choose Home Education Over HBV Vaccine

Five students have been scheduled to be taught at home because their parents object to the Wyoming State's mandatory hepatitis B immunizations for seventh-graders at the Hulett public school, according to one of the parents.

State health officials said the vaccine is necessary to protect students against a serious blood-borne liver disease that can be fatal in some cases.

But critics have said the program assumes their children are going to be sexually active or use drugs.

Crook County School District Superintendent Jeff Carrier said he did not know exactly how many parents were boycotting the vaccine.
