Trials of the vaccines, which have already protected monkeys against HIV when exposed to the virus, are awaiting government approval, said the Australian National Council on AIDS.
"Australian-developed HIV vaccines are ready to go into human trials," said Chris Puplick, chairman of the council that is the government's main advisory body on HIV/AIDS issues.
Trials to check for adverse reactions to the vaccine would start in July 1999 on about 40 people in Sydney and Melbourne if approval...
