Flu Vaccine May Protect Children from Asthma

Influenza vaccination may protect children against asthma, suggest intriguing data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

It is suspected that some 85 percent of asthma exacerbations may be caused by upper respiratory tract infections with viruses - including influenza.

To see whether influenza vaccination protected children from such exacerbated asthma episodes, CDC researcher Piotr Kramarz and colleagues conducted a historical cohort study using data from the Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD).
