Patent on Dry Powder DNA Formulations Announced

Inhale Therapeutic Systems, Inc, announced it has been issued US patent 5,994,314 for dry powder formulations of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) with viral or commonly used lipid vectors.

Dry powder DNA formulations potentially could be used for gene therapy or vaccines.

This patent covers dry powder formulations of DNA either as a lipid (cationic) complex or in a viral vector using hydrophilic (water soluble) excipients. Vectors are a means by which DNA is delivered to the target cell.
