Scientists Prove Safety, Effectiveness of Lyme Vaccine in Children

Published in Vaccine Weekly, May 24th, 2000

Researchers have demonstrated that a vaccine against Lyme disease not only is safe for children ages four to 18, but also raised children's protective antibodies against the Lyme disease organism to higher levels than in adults.

The findings were presented at a joint meeting of the Pediatric Academic Societies (made up of the American Pediatric Society, the Society for Pediatric Research, and the Ambulatory Pediatric Association) and the American Academy of Pediatrics on May 14, 2000.

The vaccine, LYMErixTM Lyme disease vaccine (recombinant OspA), had previously been tested in adults but not in children.
