Dendritic Cell Vaccine Evaluated in Advanced Melanoma Patients

Researchers in Italy evaluated a vaccine protocol based on dendritic cells (DC) pulsed with heat shock protein (HSP) or lysate from autologous tumor in patients with advanced melanoma.

"A vaccination protocol for advanced melanoma and renal cell carcinoma with DC pulsed with HSP obtained from autologous tumor tissue was planned in the Department of Medical Oncology, Forli," reported Angela Riccobon and colleagues from Pierantoni Hospital and the Institute Oncologico Romagnolo. "DC were differentiated from peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) obtained by leukapheresis without pharmacological stimulation immediately before the first treatment cycle."
