Combination Vaccine and Radiotherapy Kills Tumors in Mice

Researchers in Hungary found that cytokine-expressing autologous cancer cell vaccines combined with radiotherapy effected cures in a majority of mice with brain tumors.

"The combined therapeutic effect of cytokine-expressing autologous cancer cell vaccines and local radiotherapy was studied in a murine brain tumor model," reported Katalin Lumniczky and colleagues from the National Institute for Radiobiology and Radiohygiene, Budapest. "Using an adenoviral vector system various cytokine-encoding genes were introduced into murine Gl261 cells."
