Basiliximab Immunosuppression Beneficial to Children

The use of basiliximab (BX) combined with low-dose calcineurin inhibitors reduces nephrotoxicity complications in children after liver transplantation, researchers in the United Kingdom reported.

"Liver transplantation (OLT) is effective therapy but immunosuppression with calcineurin inhibitors (CNI) leads to significant nephrotoxicity resulting in either reduction of the dosage below the therapeutic level or omission of the drug," stated Nitika Arora and colleagues from the Birmingham Children's Hospital, West Midlands.
