Liver Cancer Rate Falls in Taiwanese Boys, Hepatitis B Vaccine Rate a Factor

- by Sonia Nichols, staff medical writer -- Until recently, young boys in Taiwan tended to develop a type of liver cancer called hepatocellular carcinoma faster than young girls. Investigators now credit better hepatitis B immunization rates for a decreased incidence of this cancer in Taiwanese boys.

Medical investigators in the Department of Pediatrics at the National Taiwan University Hospital recently reported these findings in the Journal of the American Medical Association. M.H. Chang headed up the pediatric investigation.
