Mass Vaccination Program Dramatically Lowers Transmission In Spain

Saltmarsh, staff medical writer - A mass vaccination program to address an upsurge of serogroup C meningococcal disease (SCMD) in Spain led to a decline of SCMD in both the vaccinated and general populations, according to a report in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. L. Salleras and colleagues evaluated a vaccination campaign directed toward the 18-month to 19-year-old age group in the last quarter of 1997. During this campaign, results were tracked via mandatory reporting and a national vaccine register.
