Vaccinia hyperimmune globulin contract awarded

Cangene announces that it has been awarded a contract by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to develop and supply a vaccinia immune globulin (VIg) for use in treating and preventing severe reactions that may be brought on by the administration of the smallpox vaccine.

The contract is for a 5-year period to supply a maximum of 100,000 doses of VIG.

The CDC will order product under this contract on an as-needed basis. The company expects the initial order, of approximately 15,000 doses, to be finalized shortly.
