Development of oral biological defense vaccines initiated

DOR BioPharma, Inc., (DOR) announced that it has initiated a program to produce orally administered vaccines to protect against exposure to biological agents that can potentially be used in bioterrorist attacks.

The initial candidate vaccine is against ricin toxin, a highly potent biological toxin that is relatively easy to produce, store, and disperse and therefore a candidate for bioterrorism.

DOR stated, "Orally administered nonlive vaccines may represent a preferred method of protecting our troops and population from certain biological threats given their potential ease of administration and distribution, low cost and speed of production,...
