Plan expands coverage to nasal flu vaccine

Due to a local shortage of injectable influenza vaccine, Atrium Health Plan will cover the intranasal live influenza virus vaccine (FluMist) for indications approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), effective Dec. 10 through the end of this flu season.

Atrium is one of the first health plans in Wisconsin to cover the new flu vaccine for this flu season.

FluMist is FDA approved for immunization of healthy children and adolescents, 5 to 17 years of age, and healthy adults, 18 to 49 years of age. However, because it is a live vaccine FluMist is not approved for high-risk individuals: children less than 5 years of age, adults 50 years of...
