New TB vaccine may prove more potent than current one

The Aeras Global TB Vaccine Foundation and the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA announced they have begun the first clinical trial of a live recombinant tuberculosis vaccine in the U.S.

Six volunteers were inoculated with the new vaccine at the Center for Vaccine Development, St. Louis University, Missouri, under the direction of Daniel F. Hoft. Volunteers are also being recruited at another trial site in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, by Piedmont Medical Research Associates under the direction of Thomas W. Littlejohn III.
