Positive data reported for epitope-based HIV-1 vaccine

Epimmune, Inc., (EPMN) announced the publication of data which showed that an epitope-based HIV-1 vaccine can be designed to induce cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) capable of recognizing viruses from different parts of the world. Worldwide, HIV-1 is characterized by sequence variation caused by mutations or viral recombination events within gene products. This variation has contributed to the evolution of numerous individual virus isolates that are currently categorized into subtypes based on the degree of similarity.
