Flu season starts in Oregon

A 28-year-old man has Oregon's first confirmed case of the flu this season.

The case was reported by Providence Portland Medical Center, Oregon health officials said.

The flu typically kills more than 36,000 Americans every year, with another 200,000 people suffering severe enough infections to be hospitalized.

But health officials are concerned that the season could be worse than usual because of a shortage of flu vaccine.
