Florida to receive 370,000 more doses of flu vaccine

About 370,000 new doses of flu vaccine were expected to be sent to Florida this week for distribution primarily to doctors, nursing homes and other private healthcare providers, state officials said November 29, 2004.

Shipments should begin arriving by midweek at county health departments, which then can distribute the vaccine to private providers, said Alan Rowan, MD, the state Department of Health official in charge of the flu vaccination effort in Florida. Counties will get different amounts based on need.

Florida has now received more than 1.5 million doses of vaccine, far less than the usual amount available.
