"Veterinary medicine has recently achieved important success by introducing viral marker vaccines and marker diagnostics able to differentiate between vaccinated and infected animals (DIVA). Using these new marker strategies, one of the most devastating infectious diseases in swine, Aujeszky's disease caused by the pseudorabies virus, has been eliminated from Germany. Similar approaches for eradication or control of other important infectious diseases such as bovine herpesvirus type 1 infection, classical swine fever, foot-and-mouth disease, or fowl plague now appear feasible,"...
