Distribution of flu shots expanded in Arkansas

The Arkansas Health Department said December 21, 2004, it will expand the list of people eligible to receive flu vaccinations.

Beginning January 2, caregivers and those in close contact with people in high-risk groups were able to get the shots. Previously, the shots were limited to those in high-risk groups, such as infants, the elderly and people with chronic ailments.

Restrictions on access to the vaccine was prompted by a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendation based on a nationwide vaccine shortage.

Flu season can last through April.
