Biotechnology pharmaceutical company announces two senior management changes

Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated (VRTX) announced that Vicki Sato will retire as president of the company effective during the second quarter of 2005.

Sato joined Vertex in 1992 as vice president of research and was named president in 2000. She plans to continue working with companies in the areas of life science and biotechnology and on expanding her commitment to her interests in education.

Vertex also announced that Victor A. Hartmann, MD, will join Vertex as executive vice president, Strategic and Corporate Development. Comes to Vertex from Novartis Pharma AG and has more than 20 years of pharmaceutical industry experience primarily in the...
