Minnesota doctors get alert on possible new form of HIV

Minnesota health officials are alerting doctors to watch for what might be a new, drug-resistant strain of HIV that is said to move quickly to AIDS.

The state Health Department e-mailed about 300 infectious disease specialists, asking them to consider testing each newly diagnosed HIV patient for drug resistance.

New York health officials are trying to find out more about a man who apparently contracted HIV in December and already has AIDS. The man's HIV did not respond to 3 of 4r types of antiviral drugs most commonly prescribed; he is now receiving a fourth regimen.

Health officials have said it's not clear whether the case...
