"Subcutaneous immunization with SYI, a peptide construct based on Streptococcus mutans glucan binding protein B (GbpB) residues 113-132, significantly reduces experimental dental caries. Since mucosal immunization may be preferred for human vaccine applications, the present objective was to determine what formulation of SYI combined with polylactide-coglycolide microparticles could give rise to significant levels of salivary IgA antibody reactive with the native GbpB protein," researchers in the United States report.
