Reports advance knowledge in pneumococcal vaccines research

Reports from the United States and Finland highlight recent research on pneumococcal vaccines.

Study 1: Strategies to prevent shortages of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines were presented in a recent issue of Clinical Infectious Diseases.

According to that report, "Less than one year after recommendations for the routine vaccination of infants with the newly licensed 7-valent polysaccharide-protein conjugate pneumococcal vaccine were issued in February 2000, shortages of the 7-valent polysaccharide-protein conjugate pneumococcal vaccine supply began to occur.
