"We describe two practical issues regarding BCG vaccination that merit attention. These are time of scar formation after BCG vaccination and abortive reaction," scientists in Delhi, India report.

"Scar formation after vaccination may take 6 months or more. Babies showing abortive reaction after BCG reaction should be considered different from non-reactors," wrote M.M.A. Faridi and colleagues.

The researchers concluded: "All health care providers and vaccinologists should be sensitized that abortive reaction is one of the local reactions after BCG vaccination."
