Recent studies from Boston University, Center for International Health and Development add new data to pneumococcal disease in children

Current study results from the report, 'Impact of human immunodeficiency virus infection on Streptococcus pneumoniae colonization and seroepidemiology among Zambian women,' have been published. According to a study from the United States, "Nasopharyngeal colonization with Streptococcus pneumoniae precedes invasive pneumococcal disease. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection increases rates of invasive pneumococcal disease, and its effect on colonization is unknown."
