"Although the delayed-type hypersensitivity skin test reaction to tuberculin purified protein derivative (PPD) is used worldwide for tuberculosis (TB) detection, it is incapable of distinguishing Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) infection from bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccination or infection with non-tuberculous Mycobacteria.
