New autoimmune disease research from M.A. Pou et al outlined

"Despite major advances in understanding the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, the etiopathogenic factors responsible for the breakdown of self-tolerance mechanisms and the potential triggering mechanisms remain unknown.
