Reports from University of California, Medical Department describe recent advances in acne vulgaris

According to recent research from the United States, "Acne, one of the most common skin diseases, is caused by multiple factors, including Propionibacterium acnes." "Studies suggest that responses to P. acnes by host immunity play important roles in its pathogenesis," wrote J. Kim and colleagues, University of California, Medical Department. The researchers concluded: "Identifying immune modulators that attenuate inflammatory responses against P. acnes and the inhibition of bacterial growth may lead to novel avenues of immunologic intervention."
