Studies from Health Protection Agency Further Understanding of Meningitis

2011 JUN 8 -- A report, "Mumps complications and effects of mumps vaccination, England and Wales, 2002-2006," is newly published data in Emerging Infectious Diseases. "We analyzed data from hospital admissions and enhanced mumps surveillance to assess mumps complications during the largest mumps outbreak in United Kingdom and Wales, 2004-2005, and their association with mumps vaccination. When compared with nonoutbreak periods, the outbreak was associated with a clear increase in hospitalized patients with orchitis, meningitis, and pancreatitis," scientists writing in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases report.
