Studies from University of Nantes Describe New Findings in Cardiology

2012 MAY 9 -- According to the authors of a study from Nantes, France, "Circulating autoantibodies directed against the 2nd extracellular loop (EL-2) of beta(1)-adrenoceptors (beta(1)-AABs) have been detected in the serum of patients with various cardiovascular pathologies. beta(1)-AABs induce agonistic, positive inotropic effects via beta(1)-adrenoceptors (beta(1)ARs). In the mammalian heart, beta(1)-AR can exist in 2 distinct activated configurations (the so-called high-and low-affinity states)."
