CFC Alternative Causes Acute Hepatitis Symptoms in Workers

Belgian and American researchers have reported an epidemic of nine individuals who were exposed to hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), the substitute for chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), and then developed liver disease.

In the August 23, 1997, issue of the Lancet, Dr. Perrine Hoet and colleagues from Belgium and the United States reported nine cases of hepatitis symptoms among workers in a smelting operation ("CFC Alternative Causes Liver Disease." The Lancet, 1997;350:556-59).
