Link Between Epstein-Barr Virus and Multiple Sclerosis Studied

Researchers at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, and Dartmouth Medical School in New Hampshire have received a grant from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study how viruses are involved in the onset and persistence of multiple sclerosis (MS).

In particular, they will examine at the relationship between mononucleosis and MS.

Kenneth Bost, an immunologist and Belk Distinguished Professor of Biology at UNC Charlotte, and Dr. William Hickey, chairman of the Department of Pathology at Dartmouth, will direct the research program, funded by NIH for three years at more than $600,000
