Adenovirus Constructs Induce Glomeruloid Bodies In Animals

by Sonia Nichols, staff medical writer - Researchers at Harvard Medical School have created an adenovirus vector that stimulates the growth of glomeruloid bodies resembling those found in tumors.

The vectors represent the first success for stimulating glomeruloid growth in an animal model, researchers at Harvard's Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center report in the March 2001 publication of American Journal of Pathology.

"Glomeruloid bodies are a defining histological feature of glioblastoma multiforme and some other tumors and vascular malformations. Little is known about their pathogenesis," Christian Sundberg and colleagues said.
