Cost of incontinence care among female Medicare beneficiaries may be underestimated

Scientists writing in the Journal of Urology reported, "We measured the financial burden of urinary incontinence in the United States from 1992 to 1998 among women 65 years old or older. We analyzed Medicare claims for 1992, 1995 and 1998 and estimated spending on the treatment of urinary incontinence. Total costs were stratified by type of service (inpatient, outpatient and emergency department)."
