Cisplatin Resistant Ovarian Cancer Which Responds to Taxol Induces Neurotoxicity

Recently published research shows that ovarian cancer with acquired cisplatin resistance treated subsequently with taxol induces severe sensory nerve damage in the patient.

Guido Cavaletti et al., from the University of Milan, Italy, remark that the recent discovery that taxol can induce tumor response in platinum-resistant cancers might provide a second line defense for patients, who up to now, have not had a satisfactory chemotherapeutic available to them ("Peripheral Neurotoxicity of Taxol in Patients Previously Treated with Cisplatin," Cancer, March 1, 1995;75(5):1141-50).
