Data from Swedish Study of Tamoxifen Published

Results of a Swedish survey assessing the risk of second cancers in women treated for breast cancer with tamoxifen were published in the May 3, 1995, issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

Preliminary results of this study were made public first at a scientific meeting in 1992 and again a year ago.

In this study, women taking 40 mg of tamoxifen daily for two to five years had a 40 percent decreased risk of cancer in the opposite breast, an almost six-fold increased risk of endometrial cancer, and no increased risk of liver cancer.
