Women Have Right Not To Know HIV Test Results

Even after consenting to HIV testing, women in developing countries should have the right not to be told of their HIV status, according to a controversial report from Nairobi, Kenya.

The study found that the majority of Kenyan women participating in a prenatal HIV study did not actively request their HIV test results and that violence against women because of a positive test result was common.

The number of women of reproductive age in Africa infected with HIV is increasing and studies of perinatal HIV transmission have been undertaken for almost a decade.
