Women Uncertain About Mammograms and Breast Health

Despite the overwhelming amount of information available about mammograms, self-examinations and breast cancer in the media and through physicians, women are unsure about how to take care of themselves, according to a survey conducted on behalf of the Institute for Breast Care at Hackensack Medical Center, New Jersey.

The survey, which interviewed 302 women age 35+ in northern New Jersey, found that one of the key areas of confusion was related to the age at which women should have their first mammogram. Twenty-six percent of those responding said the right age range was 35 to 39, 25 percent thought age 40 to 44, and another 14 percent didn't know. Other responses...
