Kansas Officials Concerned Over Short Hospital Time For Babies

In the 1950s, women usually spent a week in the hospital. Currently women and infants are often at home within a day.

Kansas Insurance Commissioner Kathleen Sebelius is among the Kansas officials wondering if hospital stays are getting too short for mothers and newborns.

"As a mother who gave birth to two boys, I cannot imagine what it would be like to leave the hospital within 24 hours of childbirth," Sebelius said.

Sebelius is asking an advisory committee to take a look at hospital stays after birth.
