Cervical Cancer - Risk

Profile Established from Study of Costa Rican Women

Researchers have developed a profile of risk factors for cervical cancer, based on their study of Costa Rican women.

They published their findings in the July 1995 issue of Epidemiology ("Sexual Behavior, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, and Risk of Cervical Cancer," Epidemiology, July 1995;6(4):409-414).

Katherine M. Stone and colleagues analyzed data from a population-based case-control study of breast and cervical cancer in Costa Rica. They included data from 415 cases of cervical carcinoma in situ, 149 cases of invasive cervical cancer, and 764 controls in their analysis.
