Contraceptives - Norplant



Texans Sue Maker of Implant



September 11th, 1995

More than 2,300 women have filed lawsuits in four South Texas counties against the maker of the birth control implant Norplant and against several doctors and clinics.

The women claim that after receiving Norplant they suffered from symptoms and health problems including stroke, massive weight gain, severe headache and erratic menstrual bleeding.

Plaintiffs' attorney Frank Herrera alleges the women weren't properly warned of potential health risks and side effects, that the implants weren't properly tested before approval and that many doctors weren't properly trained to implant them.

Named as defendants are American Home Products...
