Uterine and Vaginal Antibody Responses to an HIV Polypeptide

According to a plenary abstract submitted by the authors to the Eighth International Congress of Mucosal Immunology, held July 17-20, 1995, in San Diego, California, "Antibody responses in murine female genital secretions were examined after immunization with an HIV polypeptide and Quil A, alum or cholera toxin adjuvant by oral, vaginal or subcutaneous routes. Subcutaneous immunization with each adjuvant produced serum IgG responses, but no serum IgA responses detected by ELISA. IgG subisotypes varied with the adjuvant and the kinetics of the response varied with the subisotype. Oral and vaginal immunizations produced essentially no serum IgA or IgG antibody.
