Avoiding Sex During Menstruation Can Cut HIV Risk

Avoiding sex that causes bleeding, asking partners if they have had an HIV test, and avoiding unprotected sex during menstruation can all cut the risk of HIV infection, according to a study from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Division of STD/HIV Prevention.

The CDC report was one of several dealing with behavior and HIV risk presented at the 11th meeting of the International Society for Sexually Transmitted Disease Research, held August 27-30 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
