Tension and TMD: It's More Than a 'Bad Bite'

Temporomandibular disorders or dysfunction (TMD) involve more than just a malocclusion or "bad bite," explained Terry T. Tanaka, DDS, clinical professor, University of Southern California and director of the USC TMJ and Facial Pain Clinic.

Tanaka will be speaking at the 136th annual session of the American Dental Association to be held October 7-11, 1995 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Abnormal tooth wear, loose teeth, facial or neck and shoulder pain, recurrent tension headaches and jaw joint pain - all may signify a bad bite; but they may also indicate more deep-seated TMD problems that stem from persistent personal emotional stress that is not being dealt...
