Protein in Cancer May Indicate Response To Chemotherapy

Findings suggest a correlation between levels of Bax protein in metastatic breast cancer cells and response to chemotherapy.

Dr. John C. Reed, Scientific Director at La Jolla Cancer Research Foundation, California, published his data in the October 1, 1995, issue of Cancer Research.

The Bax protein plays a role in the control mechanisms of a normal cell, timed cell death. This process, known as apoptosis, is an important counterbalance to new cell production in most normal tissue, including the breast.
