Dow Loses Nevada Case, Woman Awarded $3.9 Million

A jury on October 28, 1995, found Dow Chemical Co. liable for faulty silicone breast implants and awarded a woman $3.9 million in compensatory damages in a precedent-setting case.

The same Washoe District Court jury is scheduled to return to the courtroom October 30, 1995 to decide how much, if any, punitive damages the giant Michigan company should pay.

The five-man, three-woman jury deliberated about six hours before returning the verdict in favor of CM, who blames her ill health on leaky silicone implants.
